Der chemische Name von Bisphenol S ist 4,4 ' - Hydroxydiphenylsulfon, auch als 4,4 ' - Disulfonyldiphenol genannt. Bisphenol S hat eine ausgezeichnete Wärmebeständigkeit, Lichtbeständigkeit und Oxidationsbeständigkeit. Poly (Ethersulfon) (PES) technische Kunststoffe mit hervorragenden Eigenschaften können durch Polymerisation von Bisphenol-Alkalimetallsalz mit Dichlordiphenylsulfon hergestellt werden. Das Verbundharz von Polysulfon und Polyethersulfon wurde durch Umsetzung von Polysulfon mit Bisphenol A und Dichlordiphenylsulfon synthetisiert. Polycarbonat kann durch die Kondensation von Bisphenol S mit Phosgen oder durch die Kondensation von Bisphenol A mit Phosgen synthetisiert werden.
